Using public domain clips from early animated shorts, this piece evokes the tension between technology and the landscape, and between the human and the mechanical. The melodramatic, noir-ish footage exploits the menace in the manmade, from elevators and radios to guns and bombs. The period animation accents the moody, foreboding track by the acclaimed, Philadelphia-based jazz ensemble Matt Davis’ Aerial Photograph.
